Words & Writers: Tom Carr

<div>Join us for a few new author talk series at The Bay! The series will kick off with an afternoon event on Monday, August 31 at 2pm with author and local true crime historian Tom Carr in conversation with interviewer Amy Monette. Monette has at times supported Carr's work through her role as a librarian, bringing archival context to his research and storytelling. Admission is free; donations are welcome and benefit the nonprofit Bay Theatre.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>About Tom Carr: Tom Carr has written three books in his "Blood on the Mitten" series of Michigan true crime and dark history published by Mission Point Press. They include "Dark Side of the Mitten: Crimes of Power &amp;; Powerful Criminals in Michigan’s Past &amp;; Present"; "Blood on the Mitten: Infamous Michigan Murders, 1700s-Present"; and "MI BAD: Robbers, Cutthroats and Thieves in Michigan’s Past and Present." Carr is an independent writer and journalist</div><div>in northern Michigan who spent 25 years in daily newspapers, most of them at the Traverse</div><div>City Record-Eagle. He also worked at The Evening News in Sault Ste. Marie (now The Sault</div><div>News). He’s won journalistic awards for his investigative reporting, feature writing, breaking</div><div>news, and humor columns. As a freelancer, Carr has reported and produced many stories for Interlochen Public Radio and has had his work broadcast on NPR and Michigan Radio. His writing and reporting has appeared in the Detroit Free Press, the New York Daily News, the Traverse City Ticker, Traverse Magazine, and more.</div><div><br></div><div>About Amy Monette: Amy Monette is the branch manager at the Kingsley Branch Library of the Traverse Area District Library and district supervisor of local history. She holds a Master’s degree from the University of Michigan School of Information, where she focused on archives and information science, and has been a librarian for over 15 years.
